More About Me

I grew up in Richmond Virginia and studied at Virginia Commonwealth University. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Art and Dance, which is where I found creative forms of expression for healing work. I began using these modalities in a residential treatment center with children, teens, and adults which proved to be highly effective. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Counseling and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. As I moved into supervisory and director roles in my career, it became abundantly clear that the burnout rates for mental health professions were rising and effecting their own well-being as well their ability to provide optimal care for clients. This led me to pursuing my Doctorate Degree, specifically focusing on the topic of using Positive Psychology and Mindfulness to prevent burnout, heal trauma, and reach our highest potential.

I feel passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience with our community. I have provided numerous trainings for organizations in the Sarasota community on topics of Trauma-Informed Care, Well-Being, and Compassion Fatigue. Some of these organizations have included Sarasota Memorial Hospital, The Friendship Center, First 1000 Days, Harvest House, NAMI, Manatee County 911 operators and first responders. I was also a speaker at the Journey to Wellness Symposium in 2021, presenting the topic “Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Mental Health.”

I moved to Florida in 2020 with the goal of continuing my work to create holistic healing using cognitive restructuring, acceptance and commitment therapy, creative expression, bodywork, sensory integration, and mindfulness with survivors of trauma, as well as individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and grief. Additionally, I work with helping professionals and first responders who are experiencing secondary trauma and compassion fatigue. My goal has always been to help people thrive in their lives, rather than just survive. My hope is to walk alongside of you as you discover the unique being that you are and create the life that you deserve. I would like to support you to live in the moment and savor experiences just as they are. We are given the gift of life in each breath that we take. We have to power to become our best selves and live our best lives.

Dr. Joyce is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional, and Certified to provide supervision in FL and Virginia. She offers in-person, telehealth, and walk & talk therapy.
