I believe that everyone has the power to heal and experience a sense of liberation. My approach to this is through integrative healing by using Art Therapy, somatic movement, and when appropriate, dreamwork. What I mean by integrative healing is that I go beyond the headspace when working with clients. I am not here to pathologize the hardships you’ve experienced nor am I here to enforce the over intellectualization of your pain. I am here to be in the mud with you, and with the use of these various modalities, it provides access to the mind, body, heart, and soul.

While we are in the mud, it is my goal to work together as a team. Even though you are seeking guidance, please know that you are still the highest authority. I am not here to fix you, be a savior, or tell you what to do with the decisions you make for your life. But I am here to provide my expertise in moving through darkness to integrate healing so you can learn how to liberate yourself in a way that best serves you.

A bit more about me…

Everything that I offer is my life’s work. For me, this isn’t just a job. This is a passion. This is devotion. This is my lifestyle. I started my journey back in 2014 because I simply wanted to be a better person, but then in 2017 I got smacked by flashbacks from all the trauma I had yet to face, in 2018 I was welcomed with my first spiritual awakening, and then in 2020 I had busted through the threshold of, “there is no other option,” when it comes to facing myself, befriending my darkness, and liberating my soul for the benefit of all beings.

I am devoted to this work because I now know it is possible to get free from the things I was once afraid to face. And I want this for you too. I know it’s scary. I know it’s going to take courage that you may feel like you don’t have access to. I know it’s going to take a leap of faith into the unknown. But remember that you don’t have to do this alone. I am here to be in the mud with you. I would be honored to guide you in this phase of your healing journey.

What is Art Therapy and why is it important?

Art Therapy is a mental health profession where art therapists are master level clinicians trained in fine arts, psychological theory, counseling, metaphor, and symbolism. Art therapists go through nearly 8 years of schooling and a minimum of 2 years post-graduate residency period before they can be fully credentialed and practice independently as Registered Art Therapists (ATR). You can find more information at www.arttherapy.org

Art Therapy is an important tool because like movement or dance, it can help you express yourself beyond words or verbal language. Art effortlessly taps into the heart and unconscious mind by bringing forth information to conscious awareness. Making the unknown, known. Utilizing Art Therapy will give you a visual representation of your current state of existing, expand your conscious awareness, and help you further integrate the work taking place within your healing journey. You do not have to be an artist, or identify as a creative person, or know how to use art supplies to experience this modality. I will guide you through the process.

What is Somatic Movement and why is it important?

I am certified in the SAH (Somatic Activated Healing) Method™. This method is a wellness practice combining the healing modalities of somatic movement, rhythmic breath, mantras, ecstatic dance (freely moving your body), and meditation. Somatic Activated Healing™ teaches you how to connect to the body, be with pleasant and unpleasant feelings, regulate your emotions, move through triggers, let go of pain from the past, and ground yourself in the present moment. This is done by utilizing a bottom-up approach, in which the body is the entry point for healing. It addresses the emotions stuck in your body, rather than the specific thoughts or memories connected to them in your mind.

Somatic Movement is important because the body does in fact keep the score, and when emotional turmoil is suppressed long enough it can turn into a mind that seems like the enemy, mysterious physical pains, and even disease. It can also inhibit our ability to be present or create a meaningful life. Which leads to a cycle that keeps us attached to past experiences, unable to release and recover. This is what keeps us stuck in suffering. Healing comes from feeling and somatic movement is designed to release emotions stuck inside in a non-threatening way to give you the opportunity to learn how to be with discomfort, break the cycles, and free yourself from internal suffering.

My Fun Facts:

  • Art has always been a part of my life, but in a free-spirited way. I loved making abstract creations and telling a story through art as a child. When I got to undergrad, I thoroughly disliked being trained in fine arts because creating pieces to perfection to then be critiqued was just not for me. But I was thrilled to discover in my graduate program that Art Therapy is creation for the sole purpose of expression, not to make something look “good.”
  • Dance has also always been a part of my life in a free-spirited way. I was the kid that was constantly making up dances and having dance parties in my room with the fun lights, which I am proud to say that I still do those types of dance parties today. I never got too serious with the art of dance or would call myself a good dancer, but I sure do know how to flail my body around.
  • My recent healing adventures consist of connecting to my Celtic ancestral roots. I have been learning that their tradition also uses art and dance for healing in similar ways that I have been approaching it through Art Therapy and Somatic Movement.
  • I have been involved in the acro yoga community for a year now. This has been such an essential hobby for me that brings play, fun, and joy. This healing journey can get real serious, and acro is a lovely reminder for me that life doesn’t have to be so serious all of the time. It is also meant to be enjoyed.
