Walk and Talk Therapy
Therapy in Motion
Did you know that being in nature can be very healing?
Have you ever considered a different approach to traditional therapy?
Would you like to get in your daily workout, while receiving the powerful benefits of therapy?
Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy
Clients who choose therapy in motion have found a greater sense of emotional awareness that heightens during movement. When walking with a therapist, clients have reported that they are able to think differently and become more inspired to make positive changes in their life. This is especially true for clients who are looking to get in shape or have hectic work schedules in which health becomes less of a priority.
From a psychological perspective, you will receive the same treatment you would as if you were experiencing a normal indoor session. The biggest difference is when we walk and talk, you will be activating different regions of your brain by adding movement. Through this process, clients have reported the ability to be more open with their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Counseling Session Outdoors
Walk & Talk therapy can bring forward new emotions that you may have not experienced while being inside. Studies show that being active and outside has a profound positive impact on physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Therapy in motion creates an environment of change and possibility while enriching an already powerful counseling session.
Research has consistently shown that physical activity can enhance the mental and physical health of clients. Walking releases endorphins which lead to elevated mood and sense of well-being. Our clients choose the pace of each therapy session. Sessions vary from a meditative, relaxing walk, to a more active and fast-paced, solution-focused and action-oriented session.
Our therapists specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders, grief/trauma, divorce/separation, parent/child relationships, depression, gender identity, and self-injurious behaviors.
McNulty Counseling has over 25 years of experience with children, adolescents, college students, women, men, and families.

A Different Approach to Traditional Therapy
It’s been amazing to try alternative approaches to traditional therapy at McNulty Counseling and Wellness.
I’ve always been fascinated by the healing power of nature. Moving your body and being in nature is great for your physical and mental health.
Therapy in motion, also known as walk and talk therapy, was traditionally found in larger cities. I was impressed by the benefits of combining exercise with therapy. Two healthy things that are good for you!
Therapy in motion is becoming extremely popular. Our location in downtown St. Petersburg is the perfect setting for my clients to truly enjoy the benefits of therapy in combination with the beautiful waters of Tampa Bay! They report that they feel more energized, less stressed, and really enjoy being outside of the traditional office setting. – Carolyn McNulty
