Conflict Avoidance vs Conflict Resolution
Conflict Avoidance is a consistent pattern of intentionally minimizing or steering away from disagreement to maintain harmony – “keep the peace”. Although it may provide temporary relief and it may be useful for minor issues, if the problems persist the avoidant behavior will lead to increased emotional distance. There is difference between “good” avoidance when an individual leaves entirely a conflict situation to process their own feelings and gather more information, and “bad” avoidance that is a long-term pattern that damages the relationship.

Conflict Resolution is the active process of addressing and working through the disagreement with one goal – mutual understanding. Although addressing the underlying issues may feel uncomfortable, effective conflict resolution builds trust and leads to long-term relationship strength.
