Assessment can be a meaningful place to begin if you have spent years wondering if there’s a “better” explanation for your lived experiences. These ADHD and Autism assessments are meant to feel collaborative and thorough. I focus on understanding your lived experience and the ways you have learned to move through the world. This process is meant to offer useful, grounded information that affirms your identity and supports you in better understanding yourself.

The heart of the work

Affirming, intersectional, and never one-size-fits-all

Neurodiversity exists within the context of our cultures, identities, family systems, race, gender, sexuality, disability, class, and many other experiences and identities that shape how we are seen and how we navigate the world. My ADHD and Autism assessments are rooted in that understanding, and my reports take into account all of the ways in which your identities intersect to create a holistic picture of who you are and what your neurotype is.

This means I work from a neurodiversity-affirming lens, with special attention paid to masking, burnout, trauma, misdiagnosis, and the ways many people—especially women, LGBTQ+ individuals, BIPOC folx, and late-identified adults—have historically been overlooked or misunderstood by traditional assessment models.

Autism and ADHD Assessment Frequently Asked Questions

Psychological evaluations are often extensive processes that tend to be very time- and cost-intensive. They are designed to assess cognitive, emotional, and socio-behavioral functioning. Psychological evaluation can include many types of information gathering through many different types of psychological testing. These sorts of evaluations can only be conducted by Licensed Psychologists. They are helpful at looking at a wide range of potential explanations for differences, and they are often used to determine educational needs, disability needs, and other legally-required accommodations.

On the contrary, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, not a Licensed Psychologist. This means that there are some key differences in my educational background and training. Additionally, social work and psychology hold some different core values within the profession; those social work ethics guide my conversational, collaborative, interview-based assessment process. LCSWs do not conduct psychological testing; however, we are qualified to utilize the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) alongside other diagnostic tools in the process of diagnosing ADHD, Autism, and other conditions. My process includes qualitative interviews and quantitative scales to create a full picture of your neurotype.

Your assessment will be a series of several interviews, spanning about 2-3 hours, which we can break up over multiple sessions if you choose. These interviews will ask about your developmental history, social history, sensory/social/behavioral differences, and previous mental health treatments and assessments. You’ll also be asked to complete a series of quantitative assessments that will guide the interview and report-writing. After our session(s), I will need some time to write and finalize your report, and we will follow up with a feedback session about a week after our last interview session. In this session, we’ll talk through the findings together, I’ll provide you with some resources, and we’ll discuss recommendations for moving forward with the information in your report.

These evaluations are focused specifically on clarifying the presence of autism and/or ADHD in adults and adolescents. As part of that process, we may also discuss related experiences such as anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, sensory differences, or executive functioning challenges when they are relevant to understanding the full picture. The evaluation is not intended to serve as a broad forensic, custody, or disability determination assessment.

To formulate a diagnosis that is accurate and neuro-affirming, I have completed training in several different psychometric measures, which I use for assessment. These measures have been chosen for their validity and reliability. Not all of the measures listed will be used in your evaluation, and I may choose to add others based on your unique lived experience and identity.

For ADHD, I choose from the following measures:

  • W-CAT Interview Model (Women-Centered ADHD Treatment)
  • Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS)
  • Connors 4/CAARS-2
  • PCL-5 PTSD Checklist
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences Checklist
  • Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults (DIVA-5)
  • Brown Attention-Deficit Disorder Scales

For Autism, I choose from the following measures:

  • Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory (CAT-I)
  • MIGDAS-2 Diagnostic Interview – Adolescent and Adult Version
  • Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q)
  • Adult Repetitive Behaviors Questionnaire (RBQ)
  • Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA-2)
  • Monotropism Questionnaire
